This project was a large-scale and long process. Overall, it was one of my favorites. I love building things up like this, one project at a time. I loved making the banknotes and a travel poster. This took a lot of time, about half a semester, and in the end, I'm very proud.
Our first step was to make the identity of what we wanted our nation to encompass. I chose from four options, and I went with Verdantia. It was a nature-loving environmental society that lived alongside animals in a symbiotic relationship.
I went in the darker direction with a deep green, large bears, and deep spruce forests, lots of rain, and the smell of wet dirt with running water in the background, lots of moss and fog
For the color palette, I opted for deep, muted colors to match the style.
Next was the flag. I had a few options, but I chose something brighter, as the flag is a symbol of hope for this nation. During the world-building section, I said that this nation was founded as a way to escape environmental degradation, and so this nation was a light in the darkness for people who felt the same. It needed to be seen in the dark trees of the thick spruce forests where the natives live.
Bank Notes, I wanted perhaps my favorite part of the project. I wanted to do something fun but symbolic. Each animal has an importance to this nation. I worked hard on the security of these notes, with each having a window thread micro text, a crest, and a guillotine pattern, plus black light on some features.
The travel poster, I had a lot of fun with this one. I did this all in Illustrator, and I experimented with brushes and gradients to make it look very cute. This was one of my first full illustrations I ever did on Illustrator.
This part is very text-heavy. It gave me a lot to think about with this atlas. I went all in on the world-building and had a lot of fun with it. It gave me creative freedom and allowed me to create something great.
